Hi David, Man! I found out about the tribute to Carlos when I was finally able to check out your website YESTERDAY, but when I called Cordial for reservations, it was sold out w/ 40+ people on the waiting list. I'm happy for you and Carlos and all of his friends that it was sold out. I'm the fellow who approached you about Carlos at La Ve Lee. Ricky Lawson was playing w/ you that night. It was not a good night for you to talk about Carlos and you were very apologetic about that. You even called me to apologize (which wasn't necessary) for not being able to talk. Basically David, you and Lenny Castro are two of the few people I know that I could comiserate w/ about Carlos' passing, who would understand and be able to relate to my shock and sorrow. I was "lucky" when Jeff left us, in that I was able to share with J.R. at the Spud the night after it happened. and in the weeks following that tragedy, had the opportunity to comiserate with a few of my other drumming heroes. And I truly felt (and feel) for you (as well as Lenny, Luke and the others) for the awful pain you must be experiencing in losing TWO wonderful friends / compadres / soulbrothers. WOW. Jeff and Carlos were both heroes of mine. I was lucky enough to have numerous "encounters" with them and watch them play up close. They were both down-to-earth, friendly, classy guys. To have both of them taken away, way before their time, rips me up. Lately, I've been playing "Oozer" and "Little Wing" from the live Lobotomys CD over and over. "LW" features tremendously tasty / juicy / classy / perfect drumming by Jeff and a goosebump-producing, spine-tingling guitar solo by Luke (it's now one of all-time favorite guitar solos). "Oozer" features great-groovin' by Lenny Castro and Carlos with an excellent perc / drum solo break. Besides, it's a great tune. I'm hoping to see you Friday night at the Spud with one of my other heroes, Simon Phillips. Take care, God bless you, Creatch. You're one decent guy. And thanks for booking all of my favorite drummers for your gigs over the years (when are you going to get Gadd? Ha, ha!) Andrew

Hi David, I just dropped in to see whats new. Scrolling thru your schedule, I am overwhelmed by all your live dates that I am missing out on. I realize LA is your home, but us East Coast fans are feeling kinda neglected. I was fortunate enough to catch you at the Modern Drummer Festival with Steve Ferrone a couple years ago... but I'm suffering from live Creatchy "groove withdrawal". I'm frustrated enough that TOTO never plays any live shows out here. How bout bringing Luke and the boys out to NYC for a big blowout show. WE DESERVE IT!!! Anyway, thanks for listening. You are The Man... keep grooving brother.

Very very nice site Dave. I bought the Tribute to Jeff CD last week (I know I'm late) and love it. I recently started to listen to jazz / electric jazz / fusion again after more than 10 years of hard rock and metal. I've seen you playing live with Steve Lukather, John Pena and Simon Phillips in 1995 in Montreux and was impressed by your playing. Take care. Laurent

The Mint was excellent. That's why I always check even the small, small, small ads to see who's playing in the future. I was unaware of your website until you mentioned it while you were on stage. Belated happy birthday. I couldn't believe Steve Vai showed up. The highlight of the night was the jam-of-all-jams where you guys played bits and pieces of songs. When you started to play Dave Gilmour I was jazzed. My friend plays guitar in a local PINK FLOYD tribute band called "Which One's Pink" and I've been trying to get him to come and see you play, especially to see Luke. I have raved about Luke for years, and was really disappointed that he was playing at Scruffy O'Shae's the same damn night. When I told him what you played he was wishing he could have been there. This guy is an inspiration when it comes to copying Gilmour's sound and tone. You should try and check out their next show Saturday October 24th @ Scruffy's again. It would be great if you could jam on the keyboards. Thank for all your LA shows, I've been at every one. House Of Blues was Bitchin' Regards from a Luke fan and a Music Man guitar player.

Dave- you probably don't remember me, but I was playing drums with Willie Akins at the Stagger Inn (Edwardsville Il) a couple years ago when you came in and sat in. Eddie Layman sat in on drums at the same time, and you guys smoked!! It freaked me out because I had no idea of who you were, I just knew you were some dude from LA. I really wish I could have been able to play with you that night, and it really meant a lot to me when you complimented me on the way I played, especially when I found out the calibre of musicians that you play with on a regular basis. Hopefully some day I will have the chance to see you play again.

Hello, David, First of all I am very shocked to hear about Carlos Vega's death. I am also sorry for you to have lost your best friend. He was always my favorite drummer. Are there any plans to re-issue the "All The Way Live" album (in complete version as in original LP)? And also I wish it would be more easier to get your CD's here in Japan. I had to get the "Dream Come True" album via internet from Germany. Take care and I'll be looking forward to hear you live in Tokyo.

Dear, David My name is Anders and I am a swede attending Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. I am a music major with jazz-piano as principal instrument. I have several of your recordings (such as: Tribute to Jeff, Karizma - Cuba, Karizma - Forever in the arms..., Candyman and Los Lobotomys) and I have enjoyed a couple of your gigs in Sweden with TOTO and Los Lobotomys. As I found your music as a great source of inspiration, I would like to get further information about tour-dates and releases. Would it be possible to correspond with you by any chance?

Creatchy, you truly are the fusion / groove hippie love god of the next millenium. Thank you so much for making us aware of the benefit show for Paulette Brown at La Ve Lee via your web site. Our group of ten cats and kittens donated twice (once for each set) and we were blown away by the love and the groove in that room. It was great to see Paulette standing so strong in the blast of recognition while she fights such a tough battle. You were a most excellent governor of the grooving. Even though it was a big jam session, I think your guidance and musicality were fundamental in making the statement of love and brotherhood that I saw directed toward Paulette. And after all that, we had to agree it was the most memorable night of music that we've ever experienced. Way to go, David. Keep that incense and the grooves burning, babe. Love,

Dave I just want to share a moment about Carlos with you that I had. We did a date together. I played keys and carlos played drums. Carlos did a Steve Gadd lick during the session and after the session I went up to him and said, that was a Gadd lick. He smiled at me and told me he hung with Gadd. I told him I also played drums, he invited me to his house and we had our kits face to face and just jammed. It was great. He wanted me to teach him some licks on the piano so I showed him some licks and then he showed me some licks on the set and I showed him some of mine, he really liked one. He asked me to come back and jam again but I never did, he was too great. I loved Carlos so much because for some reason I related to him and his playing. Every time I'd check him out at a gig we'd always go back and talk. He was a beloved friend even though we only met about a dozen times. It was a Tom Gunn session we played together at.

Hi, I am a long time fan of Karizma. I listen to other related albums like the "Los Lobotomy" and "Tribute to Jeff." Would the complete version of "All the Way Live" album (am I correct with the title?) be available? That was my favorite album. The abbreviated version CD was available in Japan some years back but it is hard to find now. And I wish it will be easier to get your CD's in Japan. I had to order the "Dream Come True" album all the way from Germany. Thanks.

Hi David, How ya doin'? Your webpage is really good, one of the best one's I've seen so far. I've been playing your cds here at work (the former ASR - now DOCdata) quite a bit lately and everyone always says "turn it up"! They all love "Corbitt" (naturally) so I play it often. I am still in shock of his death and actually I just found out last week of his death. How is his family doing?, his wife? I heard he has two daughters, how old are they? I'm looking forward to his tribute-concert you are planning and I hope I can get to meet you and talk about how wonderful a human being he is. Thank you very much. James

Hi David! The Tribute to Jeff album it is just great. I think it was time that a well structured tribute record was made. I think the album shows the great manifold, if you can say that, all you guys are a part of, when it is about making music and when you look into the deep relatin between human beings at all levels. When it is about my feelings towards Jeff, I have lot to say. But to limit myself I will say this. Jeff and what he was and still standing for, it is the greatest symbol for me when it is about my love and feeling to music. By the way Does it exist some videos or cuts from american television of Jeff? (except the instruction video and / live in Paris /. My feelings goes also to Carlos Vega. I'll guess Jeff and Carlos have lot to talk about. They will never be forgotten. KEEP ON DAVID!

David ... I have seen you perform several times. This year has been very special. I have seen you 3 times and I really believe that your soul has been kissed by the spirt of Jeff. This is something that I find hard to describe, but your energy has been lifted to a place of meaning and strength, that seems to have been affected by the spirt of Jeff. I feel that Jeff is behind you in all you do musically. Kind of like a big thank you bro for the recognition you have given him. The strongest I felt his presences was the gig at the Mint in Feb. Dear David, I must say to you THANK-YOU. I admire your work, your music. I have the "Los Lobotomys" albums and Jeff's tribute (which is an outstanding production!!!). I don't have a lot of things to say except thank-you for the music you make. So, don't stop!!!!

I love your work and your webpage. I thoroughly enjoyed the Porcaro tribute CD. I was even lucky enough to snag the Japanese numbered copy of "99". Cool, huh?? Anyway, I've got a friend here in Omaha who says he gigged with you once upon a time. His name is Steve Rehbein and he is a percussionist / mallet player who used to play in a band called Auracle. Do anything for you???? If you have a chance, let me know. In any event, keep up the great work. I've got copies of "The Cats" and "Dream Come True" on their way to me in the mail from Thoughtscape and I'm dying to hear them. Catch you later...

Hey Creature Feature. Your web site could get the certificate of huge-ness, if you (or your web-jocky) would put the schedule page back up. I'm tryin' to find out when and where you and the cats are throwin' down next in this swanging town... Cool runnings, you incense-toting fusion hippie love god.

Hi David, good to know there is some place to get information about your activities. Back in April '96 we met each other at Chadney's and later on at La Vee Lee. (Remember 'the guy from Bochum' ?...) Last November I scanned the valley for some cool gig but you were not around. Love the Tribute-stuff. Can't wait to get a copy of your new record. I guess that's what many of us had hoped for: a Karizma-style kind of a thing.. Cheers, Michael.

Hi David, I would love to talk to you about doing "A Tribute to Jeff" Show at Le Bar Bat, a club I book music at here in NYC. I've done some work with Fagen and Becker, and I know a bunch of the players on the album. I'm also sure Will Lee could help gather the East Coast guys. When I read about the Baked Potato gig, it gave me the idea of doing one in New York. You can check out the club at the above URL. Needless to say, I was, and still am a huge Jeff fan, and I think this would be a fantastic show! Hope to hear from you!

Hi David. I was introduced to you in the Jeff instructional video and have followed you quite closely since then. I absolutely love the candyman album and if that's an example of the kinda stuff you and Luke can come up with, then move in with him... ha ha ha You are a true marvel and I wish you all the best.

Hallo Mr. Garfield! I only want to say, the greatest album I've ever hearded is the candy man with Luke. I never forget the wonderful concert in Hamburg at Fabrik in 1994!! I hope you give us more of this in the near future. Thanks

Hey there. Loved the show Saturday night - both sets. Stephi, my daughter bought 2 CD's. -- she has most of them I think. We listened to Recollections Sunday - very nice. Enjoyed it very much. Hope you get down to the San Diego area - would love to see you again. There is a jazz festival on the Saturday of Memorial Day. The jazz station 98.1 KIFM (along with others) sponsors it. My roommate & I have been going to them for some time. It's great even if it does make for a long day. Let me know if you're going to be down in this area --- Thanks. Bari.

David, I caught your show (first set) at the Baked Potato last night (1/24/98). As usual, you cats (Dave Garfield, Steve Lukather, John Pena, Greg Bisonnette) were awesome and very frothy. I always find something new and exciting in your live (keyboards) performances. My ears are still ringing. But its a good ring, you know? Thanks. Love, Bruce

Hi David, good to have Creatchy online at last. Everybody's talking about the re-release of a selftitled Karizma album (originally released in 1978) with Luke and Dean Parks on guitars and of the long awaited reissue of Karizma's "Dream Come True". Can you confirm this great news? I'm not quite shure if these informations are right, because I haven't found anything about this on the Creatchy site. Thanks in advance and have a good one, Ralf

David, Welcome to the WWW I pretty much love everything I've heard you on. The "Tribute to Jeff" CD is very moving, 21 Drum Salute particularly. Thank you for putting that together for us. I understand that there will be a live performance of the album. Will that be released on CD / Video? I hope so. See you around. John.

David, we've never met but I was introduced to Los Lobotomys at its inception through Johnny Slamm (Pena). I saw the group many times while living in LA from 1985-93 (long live the Baked Potato!) I use (along with Brandon Fields' records w/ John and Jimmy Johnson and Mike Landau's solo efforts) a "live in Japan" recording of Los Lobotomies (w/ Will Lee) for my Arranging Classes here at Berklee College of Music. When will Los Lobotomys be available in the US? I could sell records here if they were available (Tower Records) is a half block from the college . As for "Tribute to Jeff", when will that be released as well? Good luck, if you're in the East - get in touch, I'd like to have you at the college for seminars etc... Tell Johnny Slamm I said hi.
