Tribute to Jeff

By David Garfield and Friends

drummer Jeff PorcaroJeff Porcaro was adored by fans all over the world, and sought out by the very best musicians and artists in the music business. He had a rich, full life cut short long before its time. Jeff not only achieved extraordinary success as a musician, but as a human being as well. Porcaro, drummer nonpareil, multiple Grammy winner with the band Toto and one of the Los Angeles music scene's brightest guiding spirits for two decades, passed away five years ago, but his extraordinary musical soul is alive and in full groove thanks to keyboardist and longtime Porcaro friend and collaborator David Garfield and no less than over 75 of the late musician's idols, colleagues and protégés.

Eddie Van HalenCovering an amazingly wide ranging cross section of the genres and styles that inspired, shaped and defined Porcaro's career, Tribute to Jeff by David Garfield and Friends is a grand statement in the Quincy Jones "cast of thousands" tradition and an incredible feat both musically and logistically. Not to mention, great entertainment. But at the core of its diversity and passion lies a labor of love for all the musicians involved, an opportunity for them to laugh and cry and remember the man who set the standard and enriched all of their lives.

drummer Richie Hayward

"Making this recording as a memorial and tribute to our friend and hero, Jeff Porcaro, was one of the highlights of my life. The getting-together of friends and musicians that had never played together before all to honor a great collegue opened the door to many, many stories told, ancedotes shared, tears and, of course, intense laughter. All those that participated had a wonderful time and it was unfortunate that we ran out of time and space on the record to include more people. There were certainly plenty that wanted to participate, and some of them are listed on the cd credits under "You were missed." I am especially happy that many of Jeff's friends and family have enjoyed and appreciated this project. I knew that many people had wanted Jeff to make a solo record and he had shared with me one instrumental song written for him by Donald Fagen which he thought he would include on a solo work. It's too bad he never got to do it, however his drumming and creativity have crossed over and touched so many musical projects over the years. Jeff's grooves are here to stay, but we miss him dearly."
